Spring and Growth

Journal | March 29, 2018

Aaah, spring! Such a welcome season after a long winter. Thoughts of spring and growth are simultaneous for me. The fresh starts and new beginnings of spring are full of hope and energy. A plant that looks dead, suddenly bursting into a green newness. The idea that it seems like nothing is happening below the ground and then suddenly life emerges gives me hope.

For me, the growth that comes from new ideas and fresh starts is as life-giving as watching a plant unveil new life.

There are a number of fresh starts that I am anticipating this spring. We have sold our home and are building a new home on the 48 acre farm we purchased. I can’t wait to share the journey of the home building process. The house plans are almost finished and the build will begin in mid may if all goes well. The design influence of the home is Scandinavian farmhouse.

Another fresh start is that after running Pineridge Hollow for almost 26 years I will be taking a four month sabbatical. I will be busy running Oak Knoll Farm at the new property together with Becky Groenheide the head gardener and my husband Ralph. When you taste the delicious vegetables or the fresh salads or enjoy the flowers at the table think of Oak Knoll farm, that’s where all the produce will be coming from for the growing season in 2018. We will be launching the website and Instagram account for the farm soon and you will be able to follow along to see the many exciting developments at the farm.

Finally, the renovations at Pineridge have been completed. The kitchen has lots of new additions including doubling the walk-in cooler and freezer. The changes we made will serve to create a more efficient kitchen flow which will result in better service to you our esteemed guests. The patio will be getting all new furniture and of course, the restaurant was painted and the wood floors were redone to freshen things up.

The store had the biggest renovation and we are loving the look and the flow of the space. We are looking forward to improving our customer service in the clothing area as it is now on the main floor and much more accessible. The showroom is always changing and the new counter has created a better layout as well. Stop by and visit us soon.

Keep on growing and look for new beginnings and fresh starts, you might be surprised where they pop up.

Wishing you a spring filled with life and growth,

Warmest of Regards

“I believe in process. I believe in four seasons. I believe that winter’s tough, but spring’s coming. I believe that there’s a growing season. And I think that you realize that, in life, you grow. You get better.”
